THE MANCHESTER SHIP CANAL COMPANY TO INCREASE THE TOLL CHARGES

On November 30th The Manchester Ship Canal Company (MSCC) submitted an application to the Secretary of State for Transport to have the legislation concerning Warburton Toll Bridge revised to enable MSCC to do the following:

  1. Increase the cost of the toll to £1.00/crossing

  2. Give MSCC powers to make further increases in the toll as an when they wish

  3. Give powers to MSCC to create new by-laws regarding how the bridge should operate.

Warburton Parish Council are extremely concerned by this request and urge all residents and users of the bridge to provide their response to the official public consultation, detailing their concerns.  

All objections to, or other representations about, the proposals in the application should be sent to the Secretary of State for Transport, c/o Transport Infrastructure Planning Unit, Department for Transport, 5th Floor, Great Minster House, 33 Horseferry Road, London SW1P 4DR, (email: transportinfrastructure@dft.gov.uk) on or before Tuesday 18 January 2022.

An objection or other representation MUST (i) be received by the Secretary of State on or before Tuesday 18 January 2022, (ii) be made in writing (whether sent by post or e-mail), (iii) state the grounds of the objection or other representation, (iv) indicate who is making the objection or other representation, and (v) give an address to which correspondence relating to the objection or other representation may be sent.  (If you are sending your objection or other representation by e-mail, please provide a postal address and state “Rixton and Warburton Bridge Order” in the subject of the email.)
